Saving Sets works just fine for retaining individual backup settings. I wonder if SD could be pushed slightly further in a future iteration.

currently when SD opens, the last-performed operation is reflected in the listed popup fields for disks/type of backup. very helpful if one wants to perform this same backup again as the settings need no (re)configuring.

would it be overly difficult to link the "Copy...to...using/options" fields a bit tighter so that when the "to.." field is changed to a different volume, "using.." and subfield "options.." are also revert to the last performed operation set for this particular "copy..to" combination?

seems to me this could save a bit of effort having to always dive in and confirm settings before the backup is given the go ahead. doublechecking critical operations is generally a good thing, but... thought i'd ask.

I've got some ideas in this area that are different than what you're suggesting, but would fill some of the same needs, George. We'll see where it leads...

I am all for ...

whatever you do that avoids the "recent" thang. It seems kinda shabby/inelegant to have to deal with this.

Nevertheless, with the latest .5 Tiger update I once again have cause to be grateful for SD! No matter my best efforts (disk repair, permissions, safe boot, ect.) I am not happy with .5. Thanks to SD! I just needed to boot off the backup, SmartUpdate, and I'm back in less than 15 minutes. Damn cheap satisfaction.

Well, auto restoration is one of those things that pleases most and annoys some. But that's not quite what I'm talking about here... which isn't to say I don't have ideas there, too. :)

Heh. I SU everyday to a volume of the same name of my boot volume. Once a week I update my boot volume to yet another drive. Once a month I do so to yet a third drive. The auto restore is a PITA to me. Surely there's something in between. But then, you being a clever SOB and having ideas ... :p

Well, hopefully not too clever...
