I have an Imac that I bought off fleabay preloaded with both OS X (10.3) and OS9. the 8Gb hard drive is crammed to capacity. I want to upgrade the drive to a 40Gb. I do NOT have the OS install disks. I plan to use Super Duper. This is what I planned:
1. Set up new drive as an external drive using an IDE to USB adapter
2. Run the Super Duper to transfer the data.
3. Open Imac and swap drives out.
4. Test and have a beer.

But I just read that the Imac will only support an 8Gb startup disk and that the drive must be partitioned. will the Super Duper do that for me? if not, what software should I use to partition. what are the steps to transfer the data?

Please help. This is my wife's Imac. I am a PC guy (but, I'm learning :D ).

SuperDuper! definitely won't do that for you, but you can do it with Disk Utility, in the "Partition" tab.

Other than that, it sounds like it should work... well, depending on the beer. ;)
